Jaro Fransen obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Applied Physics from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, specializing in fluid mechanics and experimental methods. For his master’s thesis, supervised by Professor Federico Toschi, he designed and built a laboratory setup in which waves on flowing water emulate light in curved spacetime.
After graduating, Jaro joined InnoFlex Technologies, a climate tech startup, where he helped develop plasma and photocatalytic systems for breaking down fluorinated greenhouse gases from semiconductor manufacturing. Alongside that, he gave talks, workshops, and tours at the Next Nature Museum on the intersection of technology and society.
Jaro joined the Laboratory of Interfaces, Fracture, and Transport (LIFT) in 2026 to pursue his Ph.D. His work here revolves around experiments in thin-film flows.
Outside of the lab, Jaro plays around with synthesizers and cameras. This means he leaves a lab full of signal generators and photodetectors in order to go home and operate a signal generator and a photodetector. He also loves to cook, and is always up for an interesting conversation.
